The Rivet Gun

The typical homeowner has all the basic tools for the house – hammer, nails, pliers, adhesives, etc. However, there are a lot of innovative tools that make home maintenance easier. If you have a gutter system, the rivet gun makes repairing gutters quick and easy. Read on to learn more!

Rivet Gun

For homeowners with a gutter system, the rivet gun is quickly becoming a must-have tool. Riveting is an easy way of attaching two parts together, such as gutter seams and downspouts. It ensures a tight and secure bond - even when an adhesive is applied.

The rivet itself looks like a nail but has a thicker head, and can be made from steel or aluminum. The rivet gun looks like pliers, has a place for inserting the rivet, and comes in various sizes.

Riveting

A few practice rounds are recommended and can be accomplished using two pieces of metal or aluminum. First, join the two pieces securely using a clamp. Using a hand drill and a bit the size of the rivet, drill a hole into the sheets of metal or aluminum. Insert the rivet to the rivet gun with the head inserted to the hole. Squeeze the handles of the rivet gun until the rivet snaps. The pin is driven into the rivet and the body expands. The pressure snaps the weak part of the rivet (just below the head) and conjoins the two parts.
